Windstar Cruises – A unique Cruising Experience

A unique concept for a cruise holiday is one with Windstar Cruises. They operate three ships in their luxury fleet all with computer-directed sails of either four or five-masts.

They are unique as they explore hidden harbours and destinations that the mega ships could never consider. Condé Nast Traveler just has designated the cruise line to their 2014 Gold List of Top Ocean Cruise Lines.

The Wind Star and Wind Spirit are the four-mast ships that carry only 148 guests while the five-mast Wind Surf carries 310 passengers. Cabins are spacious and all are exactly the same, with the exception of one Owner’s Cabin.

Bring as many of change of outfits as you like because each room contains enormous storage space. All cabins come with a sea view plus a TV, DVD and CD player that also serves as an iPod dock with Bose SoundDock speakers. There will be plenty of use for the player as there’s a free rental library fully stocked with an array of films.

Windstar’s fleet of yachts offer exceptional service, activities and well-appointed amenities. However, leave the suits and evening wear back home as formal wear is not required. Windstar can be recognised as the first in inventing the idea behind casual cruising.

Smart casual is the order of the dress code evening with the exception being “no jeans or t-shirts in the dining room.” Dining focuses on the local cuisine of the regions visited.

A cruise holiday with Windstar will give you the chance to visit a different port almost every day. Itineraries call at many ports throughout the Middle East, South Pacific, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and Central America. Many of them are free of mass tourism.

These ships for are made for adult couples although occasionally a teen or two are welcomed to join their parents. There are no supervisors or special activities that cater to children and it’s clear that this is not the choice for families with younger children.

There are no nightclubs or Las Vegas style shows. The ship does have a piano bar, library, spa, small casino and poolside Barbeque in the evenings.

The water sports platform is open during the course of the day when the ship is anchored. Guests tend to make it habit to come back from an in-port excursion and head off for a swim in the sea right from the back of the ship.

Known as the cruise line that is water extensive, other activities include kayaking, water-skiing and windsurfing. Boogie board, inner tubes and noodles are complimentary as well as snorkel equipment.

Windstar has a new ship the Star Pride setting out in May of this year. The name of Pride may be familiar to cruise fans as this vessel was originally commissioned to Seabourn. Windstar Cruises purchased the Pride and with major renovations, it is being transformed into the 21st century state-of-art Star Pride.

The ship remains small enough to call at the smallest islands in the Caribbean, Arabia or the Aegean. Windstar is promoting the Pride as “elegance redefined”.

The luxurious, modern and stylish upgrades include new interior designs and furnishings in public spaces. They will introduce a Star Bar for casual drinks during the day and a venue for stargazing at night.

The main dining venue will feature plenty of art work and mirror panelling embedded with Murano glass making for a chic and elegant atmosphere.

All other restaurants will feature the signature Windstar casual dining style with open seating.

The other two ships of the Seabourn fleet, Legend and Spirit will be handed over in April 2015 and May 2015 respectively and begin sailing in the Mediterranean at first.
